| Dearly transfigured people of God, Bunnies and Javelinas! Oh my! These are only a few of the critters we saw while we participated in the 2025 Adult Summer Camp for the Diocese of Arizona. I have to say, we enjoyed fun and meaningful fellowship with Episcopalians from across the congregations of the Diocese and with Christians from our Full Communion Partners (or soon to be), the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the United Methodist Church. My favorite parts were the hospitality every night, enjoying snacks and some soda, and watching movies and shows after hours with my fellow campers. We watched the movie Luther (2003) and the show Rev on Britbox. The meals were good every day and the kitchen serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Our keynote speaker was the former Secretary General of the Anglican Communion, the Most Rev. Josiah Idowu-Fearon, who is also a retired archbishop of the Church of Nigeria and member of the Church of England. His breadth of experience across the Anglican Communion, including as a member of the two largest Anglican churches in the world, was much appreciated as he taught us about what it means to be a worldwide fellowship of Christians. Participants went kayaking at the lake, archery shooting, and had a talent show night. For our other program activities, we made rosaries, had a Bible Study about the ecclesiology of the Church, and card making. We also have a worship service together every year. A couple of years ago, I was asked to deliver the Sermon. During the sermon, I shared that my transfiguration moment at camp took place at the creek. I was so busy taking pictures to try and get the ‘right’ lighting and the ‘right’ colors because I wanted friends on social media to see what I saw. Then I realized: If I focus so much on taking the ‘right’ picture, I will miss out on what my eyes were seeing right before me! And, if a picture cannot fully express the beauty witnessed, my words can be a testimony. Jesus calls each of us to also be living witnesses who will testify to the beauty of Jesus and the redemption he offers to all. Do you have some ‘transfiguration’ moments to share? God invites you to share them with the people around us so that they can hear how Jesus is working in our lives. I don’t know what all of our plans will be for next year’s camp, but I know that I want to be back at Camp for Adults 2026! Blessings, Fr. Caleb |
