 The 2024 Diocesan Convention delegates from the Church of Transfiguration were Lynn Graff Senior Warden, Bill Robinson, LaDonna Boyd and Ann Williamson. The arrival at Saint Philip’s in the Hills, Tucson, was a breeze with the traffic control directing us to a very suitable parking space with just a short walk to the check-in station. We signed in and received a badge and lanyard. I lost track of my fellow delegates, snacking on donuts, walking the campus, and buying a book. We were honored to be joined by Bishop John Orina Omangi of the Diocese of Upper Southern Nyanza – Kisii at Convention. He was recently installed as the first Bishop of the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Diocese of Upper Southern Nyanza which was formerly part of the ACK Diocese of Southern Nyanza. Lunch was delicious and well organized; seeing people from throughout the entire Diocese was very interesting too! St. Philip’s is a beautiful campus and the Eucharist procession was a grand event with the choir and band filling the air with the Holy Spirit. The Eucharist was in my opinion the best Episcopal Eucharist that I have attended in North America. God was truly there amongst us! Doug Wynn, Verger and Convention Delegate |

 Prayer and Reflection As a Christian community, fellowship and prayer are among the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Please, observe quietude when entering and exiting the sanctuary for worship so that members may greet one another quietly and also pray and light candles. For those in need of and seeking silence for prayer and reflection, we are opening the Parish House Chapel before each service for prayer. The Chapel will be open at 7:30am and at 9:30am respectively. Please observe silence when in the chapel so that this may be a space for those in need of silent prayer and contemplation. |
 ECM Work Day The Episcopal Church Men’s group will sponsor a work day on Saturday November 2 from 8 – 11am. Coffee and donuts will be provided and we’ll work on various projects around the church. We have also been invited to join the ECW for lunch afterwards. Contact Tom Kevern at (301) 717-8870 for additional information. |
 ECW Meeting Our monthly Episcopal Church Women’s meeting will be held on Saturday, November 2 at 10:30am in the Fellowship Hall – potluck luncheon to follow (ECM work day crew will join us). We are serving soup, sandwiches and some sides so please bring extra and let Peg know what you are bringing if you have not already done so. For questions, contact Peg Wier. |
 Stewardship Campaign On Sunday, November 3 we will kick-off our Stewardship Campaign, Walk in Love, for the 2025 budget year. Please pick up your personalized stewardship packet in the Narthex or we will mail it if you are still out of the area.  Trunk or Treat On Halloween evening, Thursday, October 31 from 6-8pm, we will host Trunk or Treat in our parking lot. Please feel free to come at 5pm to help us set-up and place signage. Decorate your vehicle trunk, dress up, and hand out wrapped candy as we invite our neighbors to enjoy All Hallows’ Eve with us while socializing with our fellow Transfiguration members. As part of our outreach, we will have a food truck that will serve up to 100 of our neighbors. |
 Music Director News Starting Sunday, November 3, Eileen Chandler will begin serving as our Interim Music Director for the next six months. We extend a big thank you to Eileen and to Tami Root who has served as our Interim Music Director for these last few months! Both of these wonderful parishioners have volunteered their time, making new ministry possible at the Church of the Transfiguration. We have identified a new Music Director. However, due to a medical emergency, he is not able to begin at this time while he recovers. |
 Fall Rummage Sale The annual Fall Rummage Sale will be held from November 21-23 in the Fellowship Hall. There are two rooms set up in the Fellowship Hall for collecting gently used clothing for the sale. There are also labeled boxes available for you to sort and place your donations.  Book Club The October Book Club will meet on Friday, November 15 at 10am AZ time via Zoom. We will discuss The Women by Kristin Hannah. Ellen Jackelen will be the discussion leader, the Goodreads rating is 4.63, and click here for the review. Altar Flowers Altar flowers can be dedicated in honor of special life events such as birthdays and anniversaries, in memory of a loved one or as a general thanksgiving. If you would like to contribute to future altar flower displays, please contact our Flower Guild Director, Ruby Seyffert with your special requests. When using Zelle or a check, please designate ‘Altar Flowers’ in the memo field. Altar Guild Altar Guild members care for the altar, vestments, vessels and linens under the direction of the Rector, and prepare the altar and worship space for services including weekend worship, weddings, funerals and baptisms.Please contact the Church Office to volunteer or to learn more. Episcopal Church Men (ECM) All men who attend Transfiguration are included in ECM. Their next project will be a work day on Saturday, November 2 from 8-11am (see more details in the This Weekend section). If you have any questions, please contact John Collins at (480) 406-3121. Episcopal Church Women (ECW) All women who attend Transfiguration are included in ECW and invited to attend meetings and activities. ECW meets on the first Saturday of each month at 10:30am in the Fellowship Hall followed by a potluck lunch. God’s Soup Kitchen This group meets monthly (the next soup preparation session will be on Tuesday, November 5 at 9am) in the Fellowship Hall kitchen to prepare soup for the ill, the needy, and the shut-ins and make such a positive impact on the community. The latest offering is: tomato basil soup located in the freezer in the Fellowship Hall. If you are interested in volunteering for this ministry, please contact Miriam Waddington. Lay Servers Would you like to be a greeter, member of the welcome team, chalice bearer, reader, torchbearer, crucifer or help count the offerings? Please contact the Church Office so you can find out more and assist. Stitchery Ministry This group meets the second and fourth Thursday each month at 1pm in the Parish House living room to knit, crochet, sew, quilt and other needlecraft. In addition to giving to our own members in need, the ministry donates items to hospitals, nursing homes, shelters and other charitable organizations.  Second Sunday Giving On the second Sunday of each month, all loose plate collection money (not tithes) will be given to a non-profit organization selected by your Vestry. Each organization reflects the mission and values of the Transfiguration Community and the Episcopal Church. November’s Second Sunday plate donation will go to United Thank Offering (UTO). UTO’s focus is on promoting gratitude and supporting innovative projects that address compelling needs around the globe.
